The aim of Metal Injection Molding (MIM) technology is to combine both advantages of plastic and metals. Thus, a mix between metal powder and polymer is injected into a mold before being sintered into an oven. MIM technologies help avoid complex machining operations and ensure the repeatability that goes with a mold.
Firstly, the metallic alloy powder is incorporated into a mix of wax and plastic binder that forms the “Feedstock”. Then, the Feedstock is heated and injected the same way as in all the plastic injection technologies. The result is called the “Green Part”. Finally, the Green Part is debinded and placed into an oven to be Sintered.
