With the advent of 3D printing, the Laser Metal Fusion (LMF) or Selective Laser Melting (SLM) has lately earned a great deal of interest in the industry. The process, called Laser Sintering at the early beginning, ensures unique possibilities with geometry that could not be achieved by traditional techniques.
Using its knowledge in powder technology, Hilderbrand has been one of the first companies able to provide free flowing precious metal powder for LMF/SLM application.
HILDERBRAND and SISMA Laser are working together to develop the Laser Metal Fusion (LMF) process for serial production of Jewellery, Watch and industrial parts in precious metal. The three central process components - the MySint 100 system from SISMA, the associated noble metal alloy powders from HILDERBRAND as well as specific parameters - are perfectly matched together.
The MySint 100, which is designed as a compact and robust machine for the generative production of small series, is particularly suitable for this purpose. The powder range includes a platinum-gold alloy, two palladium-based white gold alloys, a yellow gold alloy (3N), a rose gold alloy (4N) and a red gold alloy (5N), and noble metal alloys, e.g. PtIr20 are available on demand. For these precious metal alloys, parameter sets are developed specifically for Jewellery and Watch applications in order to fit the machine and the powders mentioned.
The focus is on achieving a high density and a uniform structure with at least the same physical properties as cast or machined products, like it is the case with semi-finished products.
